(Kingston, RI) – This past Saturday a small group consisting of the V4, the Lwt4, and the 2v4 traveled to the Donahue Rowing Center for the Quinsigamond Snake Regatta. All three boats competed in the Varsity 4+ event which consisted of 24 boats. The V4 of Carl Neff, Colin Moulton, Steve O’Brien, Grady Bolan and coxswain Max Fullmer, covered the roughly four thousand meter distance in 14 minutes 40 seconds to claim the silver medal. Just over seven seconds behind them, the Lwt 4 of Connor Dunn, John Mannion, Alex Isabelle, Matt Leal and coxswain Emily King finished in third place. The 2v4 of Nick Soucy, John Searles, Adam Saluccio Kyle Higgins and coxswain Rachel Loffredo, posted a time of 16 minutes 50 seconds to place nineteenth.
Not too far away in Boston, Ma., alumnus Charlie Boyle (’14) and Joe Martinez teamed up to race the 2x at the Head of the Kevin III. The race was essentially a time trial as one hundred fifteen boats were given a time standard which served as a comparison to past winning times at the Head of the Charles. It was good prep for the Charles next weekend as it is the same course. The 2x finished with 91.8% (67th) of their standard time. Also in attendance at the race were alumni James Leech (’13) and Joe Hanna (’10). Leech was in Riverside Boat Clubs 8+ which finished 100.5% (second highest % of the day) of their gold medal standard time and Hanna was in the Riverside Lightweight 4+ which went 94.2% (42nd) of their gold medal standard.
Rhody’s next race is the prestigious Head of the Charles this coming weekend where we will have entries in the Men’s Club 4+, Men’s Championship 2x, Mixed Inclusion 2x, and the Men’s Lightweight 4+. Leech and Hanna will also be racing as will many URI alums.
