On Sunday, March 30, members of the team and several of their parents attended a Senior Brunch at the Mariner Grille in Narragansett. The brunch was organized by Team Capt. Charlie Boyle’s mom, Lurene, and as if that wasn’t enough, she also arranged for a generous benefactor to donate the team members’ meals. Andy Law’s parents provided an amazing layer cake adorned with the URI Crew logo, custom made in a Boston Italian bakery, and reputed to pack 1000 calls. per slice; rower fuel!
We recognized the accomplishments of Seniors Charlie Boyle, Andrew Law, and Devon Kirk, who have managed to successfully balance the demands of rowing and school for four full years. We are hoping the best is yet to come as they embark upon their final spring season.
And we welcomed the parents of 1st-year rowers, whose sons and daughters just competed in their first spring race the day before. Hopefully they were struck by how proud we are of this Senior class, and look forward to seeing the day when their children are the guest of honor at their own Senior Brunch.
it was a much appreciated and welcome respite from what has been a very difficult spring so far, as a result of the unusually long winter. For a couple of hours, everyone got a chance to enjoy some great food and great company. It was such a stark contrast to the day before, where we spent 8-hrs. slopping around in a sea of mud, and battling wind and rain on the course at the Murphy Cup.
Charlie Boyle called upon the younger members of the team to reconvene next year, and each year after, to make the Senior Brunch an ongoing tradition of URI Crew.
